There are about 25,000 kids with some form of lupus in the United States with 10,000 of them being the most severe form systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). Lupus can remain hidden for years silently but progressively causing more pain. Lupus is also more common in girls as well as in Black, Latina, Native, and Asian communities. Since lupus is a more obscure disease, there are often not enough doctors and research done, which can cause a lot of uncertainty for families. Our mission is to provide children living with lupus a space to express their experiences and resilience through creative outlets such as art, writing, and multimedia storytelling. By fostering self expression, we seek to combat the isolation that often accompanies chronic illness and to create a supportive community where young people feel seen, connected, and celebrated. We hope that this organization can give a sense of relief to families as well as the kids who are undergoing such a difficult endeavour. Ultimately, our goal is to transform the narrative of illness into one of strength—empowering children not only to share their stories, but to take pride in their vulnerability in them.
